On average, American adults consume 77 grams of added sugar per day. That’s like eating a 1-pound bag of sugar every 6 days.

It’s also double to triple the recommended daily limit. According to American Heart Association recommendations, men can have up to 36 grams of added sugar or syrup per day. Women and kids over 2 should have no more than 25 grams.

Grams of sugar add up quickly. A 12-ounce flavored latte might have 20 grams of added sugar. Including a blueberry muffin in your order adds another 29 grams. If you’re more of a soda person, a 12-ounce soda has 32 grams of added sugar.
