Partner treatment lowers BV recurrence

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a common vaginal infection that affects roughly 1 in 3 women of reproductive age. It also can affect women after menopause.

While BV isn’t dangerous, it can be frustrating to manage. It’s caused by an imbalance in the microorganisms naturally present in the vagina.

When in balance, these organisms help keep the vagina healthy. But an overgrowth of certain types can disrupt the balance and cause symptoms such as thin, often discolored vaginal discharge, a vaginal odor, and vaginal itching. Treatment typically involves oral antibiotics, but symptoms often return after treatment.
