Look around your home. Do you see a loose throw rug, a cluttered entryway, poorly lit stairs or pet toys scattered on the floor? Think about your health and habits. Do you have any health-related issues or take any medicines that make you feel unsteady, sleepy or dizzy? Do you look at your phone when you walk?

Fall hazards are common. More than 1 out of 4 adults age 65 years and older falls each year. And less than half tell their doctor about it because they worry they will lose their independence.

Falls aren’t an expected part of aging. In fact, falls are preventable. Taking steps to prevent falls — and knowing how to get up if you do fall — can help you live a vibrant, active life.
