Salsa verde

Salsa verde is versatile and adds so much color and a slight spice to any dish. Whether that is eggs or tacos, this salsa verde will have you wanting to spoon on more!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds tomatillos
  • ½ cup chopped onions
  • 2 jalapeño peppers, chopped
  • ½ cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • ¼ teaspoon sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Preheat a grill or cast-iron skillet.
  2. Place the tomatillos on a grill or in a skillet and cook until the skin is slightly blackened.
  3. Once the tomatillos have cooled, remove the skin.
  4. Cut the tomatillos in half and place them in a blender or food processor with the onions, jalapeños, cilantro, lime juice, sugar and salt.
  5. Blend until smooth.

Raw tomatillos have a waxy, sticky texture that disappears when they are cooked.
